Objective
The regulation establishes a comphensive framework for setting ecodesign requiments aimed at making products more sustainable, reducing environmental impacts, and promoting circular economy practices across the European Union.

Scope
- The regulation applies to a wide range of products, including household appliances, electronics, textiles, and more, focusing on improving their sustainability through increased durability, reparability, recyclability, and energy efficiency.
- Excludes categories like food, feed, medicinal products, and certain vehicles.

Key Components:

1. Ecodesign requiments
- Objective: to ensure that products are designed with sustainability in mind, covering the entire lifecycle.
- Core Areas: durability, reliability, reparability, upgradability, reuse, recyclability, and energy efficiency.
2. Digital Product Passport
- Objective: to enhance product traceability and transparency through a digital system.
- Content: information on product sustainability, materials used, compliance status, and other relevant data.
3. Market Surveillance and Compliance
- Strengthens market surveillance mechanisms to ensure product compliance with eco-design requirements.
- Provides authorities with tools to verify product information and enforce regulations.
4. Obligations for Economic Operators
- Manufacturers, importers, and distributors must ensure their products meet eco-design standards.
- Accurate digital product passports must be provided, along with adherence to compliance assessment procedures.
5. Incentives and Support  
- Encourages member states to offer incentives for sustainable products.  
- Promotes the practice of green public procurement.
6. Penalties and Enforcement  
- Member states must establish effective and deterrent sanctions for non-compliance.  
- Includes fines and potential exclusion from public procument processes.
7. Review and reporting  
- The European Commission is responsible for monitoring and reporting on the implementation and impact of the regulation.  
- Aims for continuous improvement of regulatory frameworks for product sustainability.

Key Implementation Dates:

1. Entry into Force:    
- The regulation officially ented into force on 13 June 2024.
2. Digital Product Passport Implementation:  
-Specific timelines for the digital product passport system will be set by delegated acts of the European Commission.
Initial implementation is expected in 2025, with full rollout by 2028.
3. Delegated Acts and Ecodesign quiments:  
- The European Commission will begin adopting delegated acts specifying ecodesign requiments for various product groups starting in 2025.
4. Market Surveillance Enhancement:  
- Strengthened market surveillance measures will be rolled out gradually from 2025 onwards.
5. Transpancy Obligations for Medium-sized Enterprises:  
- Medium-sized enterprises must start disclosing information about unsold consumer goods by 2030.
6. Penalties and Enforcement Measures:  
- Member states are required to implement sanctions and enforcement measures by 2026.
7. View and Reporting:
- The Commission will conduct regular reviews and publish reports on the progress of the regulation starting in 2026.
